Terms of Use

Last updated: August 2026

1. What Chess Habits is

Chess Habits is an independent, hobby project that reads public game data from the Chess.com Public API and turns it into personal habit insights. It is operated by an individual, not a company.

The service is provided "as is" and is intended for personal, non-commercial use only.

2. No affiliation with Chess.com

Chess Habits is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Chess.com. "Chess.com" is a trademark of its respective owner and is used here solely to identify the public API the app reads from. We do not use Chess.com branding, artwork, or interface designs.

3. Accounts and payments

Creating an account is only required to purchase or restore premium access. Free users may analyse public usernames without signing in, subject to the current usage limits.

Premium access is a one-time digital purchase. All payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store payment card details.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the service, including but not limited to: attempting to bypass usage limits, scraping the site, reverse-engineering the code, or using the tool to harass or target other players.

We reserve the right to block access for behaviour that degrades the service for others.

5. Disclaimer of warranties

The statistics, insights, and observations shown are computed automatically from public game data and are provided for entertainment and self-improvement purposes only. They are not professional chess coaching advice.

We make no warranty that the service will be accurate, complete, uninterrupted, or error-free. Public API availability, data quality, and rating calculations are outside our control.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of Chess Habits shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the service.

7. Disclaimer of data accuracy and third-party reliance

Chess Habits is built on data from public APIs and automated calculations. While we try to keep results accurate and useful, we cannot guarantee that any statistic, rating, insight, or recommendation is complete, correct, or up to date.

All outputs are generated automatically and are for informational and entertainment purposes only. They are not professional chess coaching, financial, legal, or betting advice. You use every report, chart, and recommendation entirely at your own risk and judgment.

We are not responsible for decisions you make based on the app, including but not limited to: training choices, wagers, purchases, coaching relationships, or any action taken toward other players. We are also not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or policies of Chess.com, Stripe, or any other third-party service we rely on.

8. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted means you accept the revised terms.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable in the operator's country of residence. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
